Gets you there faster
The AVONA Callis is designed to take road bike speed to gravel roads. The feeling of gliding over rough ground at speed is unparalleled. It is aerodynamic yet compliant, with room for fast rolling tires, at a low weight. Because we focused on all aspects of performance, it is a truly versatile bike. Racing, exploring new roads, or even doing double duty as your road bike, this bike can do it all.

Aero goes Gravel
Aerodynamics is an even bigger factor on gravel than on tarmac: Riding gravel often means covering a lot of distance, exposed to the wind, alone or in small groups. The less air you are pushing around, the faster and longer you can go. Therefore, a lot of time went into design and CFD studies, making sure we could get drag as low as possible without compromising other performance factors like weight, stiffness or vertical compliance. During the development it became clear that we should focus on the front end of the bike, where you can get the biggest gains, resulting in the characteristic leading-edge extension of the head tube. In the end, a whopping 25 W drag reduction was confirmed in the GST wind tunnel when comparing it to a competitor bike that already had aerodynamic features.
Compliance
Vertical compliance is inherently important for gravel riding. It keeps you comfortable when the ground gets rough, which means your body can perform best and get those watts onto your pedals. But not only this, studies have shown that a bike with compliance built into it goes significantly faster than a rigid one even just on rough pavement. This is why we chose a sloping top tube that allows the slender seatpost to flex.

Tire Clearance
What tires are fastest depends on terrain and speed, but often, a wide tire is the best option. The Callis can accept tires up to 50 mm wide.

Internal Storage
Going into an epic ride, you should not leave underprepared. Our storage solution means you can put your fueling, tools and rain jacket into the down tube, without adding drag and at a low center of gravity.

Sealed Headset Cap
A lot of effort went into the development of the headset cap. A two component part, it is made from fiber reinforced material, overmolded with silicone seals that keep water from entering the frame and bearings.

Spec Highlights – a 40 watt package
When deciding on components, we went deep to find the best package. And the best part, most of these parts are on your bike, no matter what groupset you choose. We get aerodynamic gains from the Faserwerk Luftschneider cockpit and DT GRC wheels, we found incredibly fast tires in Hutchinson’s Caracal Race tires that we deliver set up tubeless, and as all our bikes, the chain received the Ceramicspeed UFO Treatment. In the end, all those choices end up in a 40 W saving at a typical gravel race speed of 35 km/h. And most of these are included in all of our models, down to the Sram Rival level. As you can see in below graphic, since we did not focus on one aspect of performance gains, you will benefit from them even at a leisure pace of 25 km/h.
